Magical ritual

Man's worldview during antiquity stemmed from the assumption that, with the magical help of entities and supernatural energies, he can influence and alter his immediate reality. Supernatural beings served as powerful mediators and certain spells could harness and coerce them to fulfill their human captor's wishes. During this era, Magic was an inseparable part of human awareness, logic and way of life. In effect, magic serves as a mirror for that social reality and reflects beliefs, anxieties, predicaments, needs, desires and expectations. Such a magical cosmos is an appropriate breeding ground for belief in demons and for the blossoming of Lilith. Belief in magic enabled Lilith's absorption within Jewish religion and culture; it allowed for her development and adjustment to rabbinical standards on the one hand, and for her placement within the social margins on the other.
